The goal of The Lippman School is to provide our students an outstanding education encompassing 21st Century Skills and a strong global perspective. These skills will include citizenship, critical thinking, decision-making, problem solving, team building, leadership and creativity. The majority of each day, students will be together in core classes (science, language arts, math, etc) and expanded curriculum (technology, art, music, etc). Additionally, our students have the opportunity to choose one Area of Concentration, as described below. Our whole school curriculum will be enriched through integration, shared learning experiences and celebrations in both focuses. Judaic values will be an integral part of The Lippman School's total environment.
Global Studies and Spanish Language
The Global Studies and Spanish Language Focus will have an emphasis and appreciation for different world cultures at appropriate levels. Traditions and celebrations will be explored, as well as global issues such as economics, politics and the environment. Three global themes (Harvest Around the World, China, Latino Cultures) will be studied this upcoming school year. This focus is meant to enhance students' preparedness to succeed in a global world. These themes will also be integrated into areas of the core studies and expanded curriculum, when appropriate, giving Lippman students a broader perspective of the world in which we live. Spanish will cover conversation, reading and written language. Students will have a solid foundation by the end of 8th grade and be well prepared for Spanish in high school.
Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language
The Judaic Studies and Hebrew Language Focus will teach Judaic living (mitzvot, holidays and values), Hebrew language, Torah, prayer, history (biblical to modern) and Israel. It will emphasize how and why we observe the mitzvot and traditions, values and ethics of Judaic life, as well as a respect for the different expressions of Judaism. Through "hands-on" learning experiences, the goal of this focus is to strengthen Judaic identity, pride, leadership, continuity and to facilitate a connection to the Judaic people, the global Judaic community and the State of Israel. Judaic culture and traditions will also be integrated into areas of the core studies and expanded curriculum, when appropriate, giving Lippman students a broader perspective of the world in which we live. Hebrew will be taught through a multi-faceted, individualized approach to learning with an emphasis on spoken Hebrew. It will also be integrated throughout the Judiac Studies curriculum (i.e. holiday and Torah studies). The students will be exposed to various interpretations and commentaries on the Torah and have opportunities to participate meaningfully in prayer.
